Special Olympics Volunteer Opportunity 2026

Anonymous - Wednesday, September 9
 Volunteer Opportunity
Special Olympics is looking for more volunteers to help with the upcoming Eastern Fall Sectional on Sunday, October 4th.

Volunteering for this event can count towards one of your DSO's event volunteer requirements if all of the following apply:
  • At least 3 officers OR members from your DSO sign-up to volunteer
  • All 3 check in and volunteer at the event
  • Note: There is no double dipping - Each person can only represent ONE DSO. If someone signed up for a class or for another group on campus (Character U, Athletics, etc.) or are apart of the Special Olympics Committee they can not count towards your DSO's 3 volunteers.

Please see the information below from the Special Olympics Commitee:

We are so excited to begin our volunteer recruitment for the DeSales Special Olympics Eastern Fall Sectional! We have nearly 1,000 athletes coming to DeSales on October 4th for our EFS! DeSales this is where we need your help!! We need over 900 student and/or faculty volunteers, so invite your friends to volunteer with you! This year we have two ways that you can help volunteer. Those are as follows:

General Volunteer: The most popular way to volunteer for Special Olympics. We have over 75+ volunteer opportunities for our EFS. Volunteering at Special Olympics will involve supporting athletes, coaches, and their families through tasks like event setup, guiding participants, assisting directly with the sports, and helping at awards ceremonies. Volunteers play a key role in creating a fun, inclusive, and safe environment by offering encouragement, managing logistics, and promoting team spirit.
General Volunteers: Attached to this email is a slide show on how to signup. Feel free to sign up on your own, but we will be walking through volunteer positions and step-by-step sign up instructions at interest meetings, so we encourage you to attend! Please check and RSVP on Bark for the General Volunteer Interest Meetings.

Local Program Host (LPH): Athlete Buddy for the Day! Your job is to support the athletes, coaches, and their families throughout the EFS. You will be their tour guide, cheerleader, and DeSales support system for the day. You will be paired with a sport and county to ensure you can bond and remain with your athletes the whole day! LPH: If you are interested in being a Local Program Host (LPH), you MUST attend one of the LPH meetings. We will go more in depth as to what opportunities you will have as an LPH and we will help you get signed up. Please check and RSVP on Bark for the LPH Meetings.

To sign up for either of those positions, please follow this link, and reference the slideshow attached below and sign up on the Special Olympics Portal.

Please email Kate Dowling (kd4483@desales) with any questions pertaining about sign-ups or the event.

Please email dso@desales.edu with questions about the DSO requirements.
