As we fire up our grills for another season of delicious outdoor cooking, let’s keep safety front and center! Here are some essential tips to ensure your grilling experience is not only tasty but also hazard free:
- Location, Location, Location: Place your grill on a level, stable surface away from your home, railing, and flammable objects like tress or bushes. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby, but remember it’s best to prevent fires, not just fight them.
- Check for Leaks: Before igniting, inspect your propane or gas grill for leaks. If you smell gas while cooking, immediately turn off the grill and gas supply.
- Stay Attentive: Never leave your grill unattended while cooking. Keep a close eye on it, especially when children or pets are nearby.
- Clean Regularly: Grease buildup can lead to flare-ups. After each use, remove grease and food residue from grates and trays.
- Proper Attire: Wear appropriate clothing while grilling – nothing too loose or flowing that could accidentally catch fire.
- Cool Down Safely: Once you're done grilling, allow the grill to cool completely before storing it away.
