Summer Safety Series: Sun Safety

Maureen Keyte - Monday, July 20
 7.20.26

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors, but protecting your skin and eyes from harmful UV rays is essential. Too much sun exposure can lead to sunburn, skin damage, cataracts, macular degeneration, and increased risk of skin cancer.

Stay safe this summer with these simple tips:

• Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and reapply every two hours, especially when swimming or sweating.

• Wear sunglasses labeled UV400 or 100% UVA/UVB protection to shield your eyes from harmful rays.

• Use wide-brimmed hats and lightweight, protective clothing for added coverage.

• Seek shade between 10AM and 4PM, when UV rays are strongest.

• Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.

• Remember that UV rays can penetrate clouds and reflect off water, sand, and pavement, increasing exposure even on cloudy days.

A few simple precautions can help protect your vision, skin, and overall health all summer long.
