Attention Students:
Now that the semester is in full swing, you may be trying to make your room feel more like your own. Below are a few things you want to keep in mind while you are decorating your living space to keep you as safe as possible.
Decorating:
- Don’t hang anything in stairwells and hallways.
- Don’t cover lights or smoke detectors.
- Only hang items using approved hangers and not from sprinklers, exit signs, or fire extinguishers.
- Live trees and wreaths are not allowed in residence halls.
- Candles and incense are not allowed.
- Extension cords:
- For temporary use only
- Do not run under doors or throw rugs
- Power strips are recommended in place of extension cords.
- Avoid daisy-chaining multiple power strips. Overloaded outlets can cause fires.
Exits:
- All common areas must be kept free from clutter and objects (bicycles, trash cans, boxes, etc.) that could interfere with leaving the building during an emergency.
- Emergency exit doors should not be blocked.
