Your heart works hard for you every day — take care of it! High blood pressure (hypertension) is common and dangerous, increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, vision loss, and more. Protect your heart with these simple steps:
- Lift Smart – Straining can put stress on your heart. Use proper lifting techniques, rely on tools like dollies or hand trucks, and ask for help when needed.
- Know Your Numbers – Stay on top of your heart health with regular checkups. Follow your healthcare provider’s advice, take prescribed medications as directed, and maintain a balanced diet, exercise, and sleep routine.
- Stay Informed – Learn about heart health, warning signs of cardiac emergencies, and workplace hazards to make safer, smarter choices every day.
Just as important as prevention is preparedness. Sudden cardiac arrest can happen without warning, and early CPR and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can significantly improve survival. AEDs are available across campus, are safe for anyone to use, and provide step-by-step voice instructions.
Take a moment to locate the nearest AED in your building on the safety & emergency layer of the campus map.
A healthy heart helps you stay strong, focused, and ready for anything. Take small steps today for a healthier tomorrow!
