Flu season occurs every fall and winter with peak times from late November to early March. Common symptoms of fever, cough, sore throat, congestion, body aches, headaches, and fatigue may come on suddenly. A yearly flu vaccine is the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses, however, the following good health habits and precautions can also help keep our campus community healthy and minimize the impact of flu season.
- Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care, and avoid close contact with others.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based disinfectant.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth to reduce the spread of germs.
- Practice other healthy habits. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
