Weekly Safety Tip: March is Workplace Eye Wellness Month – Protect Your Vision!

Maureen Keyte - Monday, March 23
 3.23.26

Ensuring eye safety in all work environments is essential to maintaining long-term vision health. Follow these tips:

In the Office

Spending long hours in front of computer screens can lead to eye strain and discomfort. To minimize these risks, it’s important to follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet away. Additionally, ensuring that your workspace is well-lit and that your screen is positioned to reduce glare can help protect your eyes.

Industrial Settings

In industrial environments, eye protection is crucial due to the presence of hazards such as flying debris and chemicals. Workers should always wear safety glasses with side shields or safety goggles, particularly when cutting, grinding, or handling hazardous substances. It's also important to ensure that safety equipment is properly fitted and maintained to ensure maximum protection from potential eye injuries.

Working Outdoors

Outdoor workers are exposed to a variety of eye hazards, including UV radiation, dust, and wind. Protective eyewear with UV filters can help prevent damage to the eyes from prolonged sun exposure. For those working in dusty or windy environments, safety glasses with side shields or goggles are essential.
