As we prepare for the start of the semester and increased activity on campus, it is important to be aware of your surroundings. Use the following safety tips to keep yourself and the entire campus community safe.
Pedestrians:
- Walk on sidewalks. If a sidewalk is not available, walk on the edge of the road facing traffic.
- Always cross the street at a crosswalk.
- Pay attention, stop, and look both ways before crossing the street.
- Stay alert and avoid using your cell phone while walking.
Bicycles:
- Ride on the right side of the road, with traffic, and in a single file.
- Cyclists must follow the same rules as motorists.
- Stay alert and avoid distracted riding.
Skateboards:
- Don’t ride in the street.
- Come to a complete stop before crossing the street; walk across the street.
- Do not use headphones when skateboarding.
- Never put more than one person on a skateboard.
- Wear protective safety gear.
Drivers:
- Slow down and be prepared to stop at all crosswalks.
- Never pass vehicles stopped at a crosswalk.
- Avoid cutting across parking lots.
- Obey stop signs, no-parking signs, and speed limit signs.
