Budget Request Information

Read below for important inforamtion and instructions for submitting budget requests! This info is up to date as of 5/14/2025.

There will be first priority deadlines for budget requests each semester. Budget requests may be submitted after the deadline but will not be given priority for funding (meaning there is no guarantee there will be funding available for your request, but you may still submit the request). Any requests submitted after the deadline must be submitted at least 15 class days (meaning weekends and breaks do not count) prior to the requested event/program date. Requests submitted with less than 15 class days may not be approved. 
You may submit requests for the spring semester as early as you want. 

Budget funds are to be used for events, programs, or initiatives that benefit the campus or community. Funds can also be used for items that are essential to the operation of your DSO.

Budget funds will not be approved for and may not be used for the following:
  • Member only events and activities (meetings or otherwise) that do not benefit the campus or community
  • T-shirts, other apparel, or items for members only
  • Membership dues
  • Direct donations to an organization
  • Alcohol purchases
  • Conference or Off-Campus Professional Development *this is a separate request from the budget request (see below)
Budget requests do not guarantee funding. Requests will be reviewed and approved based on available funds, success of previous similar events or programs, thoroughness of request, uniqueness of event, program, or initiative, relation of request to DSO's mission/purpose, and other relevant factors.

You will be submitting a request for each individual event, program, or initiative that your DSO would like to do.
You will need to know an estimate of the costs of the different aspects of your request. You will also need to provide documentation (links, screenshots, etc.) of where you are getting the estimated costs all in one document.

DSO Budget Requests must be submitted by either the DSO's treasurer or president.

You will go to the manage section of your DSO's page, and then to the Money section to access the budget section. 

Click here for a walk through of how to create a budget request. Reminder this is for one singular event, program or initiative. You will need to do these steps for each request you are making. 

I have also attached a sample of how you can create the documentation needed for each request. It does not have to look exactly like my example, you can create it in a spreadsheet, or however you would like. But it should include information on how you are getting your estimates. 

You can also submit requests for conferences & off-campus professional development in a very similar way. You will just need to click on the drop down shown below to switch over to it. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT OPTION SELECTED WHEN MAKING A REQUESTS.
