The Academic Success Center invites anyone wanting to send warm wishes to Rachel Carroll and Mahdi Shah to stop by the ASC by this Friday, August 2, to sign a DSU banner.

Mahdi and Rachel were seriously injured in a car accident at the end of June. We will be delivering the DSU banners on Saturday to let the students know how much their DSU family is thinking of them.

The ASC is located in Dooling Hall, and we are here from 8:30AM-4:45PM.

  • DSU Community Briefing on Title IX Injunction

    What is new?

On July 16, 2024, DeSales University received notice that we are among hundreds of schools nationwide, and four states, included in the Kansas Injunctive Relief. This injunction bars the U.S. Department of Education from enforcing the 2024 Title IX regulations, which were set to take effect on August 1, 2024. This legal challenge has since expanded to include 21 states and delays the implementation, enactment, or enforcement of these new regulations until the matter is resolved through the courts.

    Why is this important?

The 2024 Title IX regulations were expected to introduce significant changes in how educational institutions handle cases of sexual harassment and discrimination. With the injunction in place, DeSales University will remain compliant with Title IX regulations and continue to operate under the existing 2020 guidelines. This means our existing policies and procedures for addressing Title IX issues will remain in effect for the time being.

This delay is important for our community because it provides additional time to review and understand the new regulations and their implications. It also means that any training or policy changes associated with the new regulations will be postponed until further notice.

    What is next?

Legal Updates: We will closely monitor the legal proceedings related to Title IX Injunctive Relief and provide timely updates to our community as new information becomes available.

Policy Review: Our Title IX team will continue to review the 2024 Title IX regulations to ensure we are prepared for any eventual implementation. We believe our current policies continue to provide a safe and supportive environment for all students, faculty, and staff.

Communication: Regular updates will be provided through University communications channels, including the DSU Daily, campus announcements, and/or website. Community members are encouraged to stay informed and reach out with questions or concerns to titleix@desales.edu or ocr@desales.edu.

Training and Education: Once there is greater clarity on the status of the 2024 regulations, we will schedule training sessions and educational programs to ensure everyone in our community understands their rights and responsibilities under Title IX.

We appreciate your attention to this important matter and your ongoing commitment to fostering a respectful and inclusive campus environment.

  • Weekly Safety Tip: Hiking Safety

Hiking offers a fantastic way to connect with nature, but safety should always be a top priority. Here are some essential tips:
    • Plan ahead. Research your trail, weather conditions, and potential poisonous plants in your hiking area.
    • Pack smart. Bring essentials like water, food, a map, compass, first-aid kit, and layers of clothing.
    • Tell someone. Share your hiking plans with a friend or family member.
    • Stay on trails. Stick to designated trails to avoid getting lost.
    • Watch the weather. Be prepared for changes and seek shelter if storms approach.
    • Respect wildlife. Observe animals from a distance and never feed them.
    • Beware of poisonous plants. Avoid touching unfamiliar plants. If you suspect you touched a poisonous plant, wash the area thoroughly and know the symptoms of plant poisoning such as rash, blisters, or difficulty breathing.
